The Rawn brothers pulled this Syrah lot from their young estate planting on Oct. 7, just three days ahead of the blast of below-freezing temps that signaled “game over” for many in the Northwest. Four years later, we can toast that prescient decision with this complex and suave Syrah. The experience starts in the nose of blueberry, huckleberry and cherry fruit, along with chalkboard dust, Fig Newton, chocolate, leather and Wheat Thins cracker. There’s a smokiness to the drink that’s filled with Chukar Cherry, more blueberry and huckleberry flavors. Its structure is seamless, and the lengthy finish gathers up hints of tobacco and white chocolate.
