Chateau Ste Michelle 2012 Gewürztraminer, Columbia Valley, $11
Best Buy! A magnificent wine to serve at Thanksgiving, one of the Pacific Northwest’s prime examples of Gewürztraminer might also be the easiest to find. The gorgeous nose, which gets a boost from Muscat (2%), features lychee, orange, apricot skin, tangerine and clove. Clean, classic and yummy flavors focus on tangerine, grapefruit and melon. In the finish pops up some varietally correct bitterness from citrus pith and apricot pit to skillfully balance the residual sugar (1.6%). Head winemaker Bob Bertheau enjoys this wine with any food that comes with a bit of “bite to it.”
