For a Song 2013 Caliche Lake Vineyard Riesling, Ancient Lakes of Columbia Valley, $10
Best Buy! Yakima Valley vintner Kyle Johnson continues to grow his partnership with this bi-state label developed by Seattle-based Vinum Importing and Distributing, a brand which lives up to the slogan of offering world-class wines from the Pacific Northwest “for a song” of a price. Johnson gains access to one of region’s top sites for Riesling and produces a wine that broadcasts aromas that hint at Pink Lady apple, peach, pineapple, clove and honey. The pour yields added flavors of apricot jam and tangerine, backed by acidity that nicely balances the residual sugar of 2%, making for a juicy finish. This was judged to be the best Riesling of the competition at the 2015 Seattle Wine and Food Experience Wine Awards.
