Washington Hills 2014 Sauvignon Blanc, Washington, $9
Best Buy! Hal Landvoigt, director of winemaking for Precept Wine, focuses on 40-year-old Oasis Vineyard in the Yakima Valley for this sleek and sassy Sauvignon Blanc. The collaboration with grower Brenton Roy, a graduate of Gonzaga University, is a knockout. Aromas range from dusty gooseberry to Nellie and Joe’s Key Lime Juice to crème brûlée topping while offering hints of Scotch Tape, fresh rosemary and Granny Smith apple. Inside, it’s herbal, green and wild with a fascinating mouth feel of frontal tannins backed by luscious acidity. The back end theme of gooseberry pie and a twist of lime makes for a fond farewell. Suggested pairings include brie, herb-seasoned goat cheese, charcuterie or mussels in a cream sauce.
