Ginkgo Forest Winery 2012 Mourvèdre, Wahluke Slope, $30
Wahluke Slope grower/Tacoma vintner Mike Thiede has produced yet another delicious wine from his quiver of Rhône varieties off his Mattawa, Wash., estate. Dark and intense aromas of plum, blackberry and blueberry, joined by toasted walnut and Whopper candy. The drink is a steady stream of blueberry juice and blackberry, backed by sturdy tannins and finished with a hint of molasses and Western serviceberry. It earned a silver medal at the 2016 Capital Food and Wine Festival Wine Competition. These wines are available in more than 30 states, and this is built for baby back ribs, roast beef, venison and game birds.
