For the second consecutive vintage, the Mortimers’ Diversité Pinot Noir has earned our top rating, but the 2016 vintage marks the first for Jim Sanders as its winemaker. Production takes place at Archer Vineyard on Parrett Mountain, about four miles north of Le Cadeau Vineyard along the southern edge of the Chehalem Mountains American Viticultural Area. The Swiss clone Mariafeld was among the diverse collection of clonal material in the two Diversité blocks, among the first established in 1999. There’s a deep blue fruit tone to the nose that includes mocha, baking spice and minerality. Inside, it’s filled with cherry juice as boysenberry and elegant tannins make for a smooth mouth feel that allows for a long finish of raspberry. These wines are available at the Le Cadeau Vineyard tasting room in Dundee near the Babica Hen Café and The Inn at Red Hills.
