Obelisco Estate 2011 Riesling, Columbia Valley, $18
By Great Northwest Wine on March 9, 2013
This vintage marked the year Doug Long took full control of this Red Mountain winery. The red wines continue to be crafted by neighboring winemakers Pete Hedges and niece Sara Goedhart, but this white is credited to Kevin Correll of Barrage Cellars, who shows skill with Riesling done dry (1% residual sugar). Tropical aromas of pineapple, white peach and lemon peel are backed with elder blossoms. Orchard fruit flavors of apple and more peach transition to a lemon/lime midpalate that’s capped off with notes of mineral and anise. It’s no longer available at the winery.
