Starting in 2006, the Lowden, Wash., schoolhouse began taking a portion of its Cabernet Franc from Block 8 and bottling it for wine club members. Those who relish the herbaceous qualities of many Cab Francs won’t find it here. Instead, there’s a fistful of purple fruit and a pinch of black pepper both in the nose and the palate. Those President plum and blueberry flavors pack plenty of the food-friendly acidity running just behind the tannin structure. Try serving with Bobby Flay’s Molasses Glazed Pork Roast with Black Pepper Dumplings.

During our spring visit to Walla Walla last year we did our ritual stop at L’Ecole and tasted thru the reserve wines. Due to limited space in our shipping case, I was limited to two bottles from this WW pillar. I choose the 2009 SH Cab Franc…my fav. Both are now resting peacefully in my cellar back in MS! After reading the review, it may be time to uncork one.
