Hightower Cellars 2010 Murray Syrah, Red Mountain, $20

By on March 19, 2013

Washington wineTim and Kelly Hightower launched their winery in 1997 in Woodinville and moved the operation across the Cascades to Red Mountain after acquiring land at the end of Sunset Road in 2002. They now have estate vineyards to supplement their grape sources. This delicious Syrah is named after one of their beloved winery dogs. They co-fermented with 5% Viognier in the Côte-Rôtie tradition. The resulting wine opens with aromas of cocoa powder, blackberry, leather and Wheat Thins, followed by smooth, easy-going flavors of plum, leather and spice. It’s a beautifully balanced wine that is ready to drink now with lamb.
