Daven Lore Winery 2010 Syrah, Columbia Valley, $28
Snipes Mountain in the middle of the Yakima Valley is proving to be one of the warmest areas of Washington wine country. Owner/winemaker Gord Taylor used Syrah from Upland Vineyard on Snipes and blended it with grapes from Alder Ridge Vineyard in the nearby Horse Heaven Hills to craft one of his finest wines to date – and that’s saying something. This opens with breathtaking aromas of minerality, chalkboard dust, boysenberry and smoky blackberry. The palate opens with enticing flavors of dark chocolate, cinnamon and even pumpkin pie spice that give way to blackberry and olive. This wine is loaded with everything, and the tannins that arrive in the finish are supple and complementary, playing conductor to this symphony of flavors.
