Paul and Vickie Kitzke started out in the 1970s with orchards near Richland, Wash. About 15 years ago, they began to transition into vineyards, and they’d do well to devote more of their Candy Mountain plantings to this Bordeaux variety. The nose is full of purple fruit, chocolate and light coffee notes, which are followed by easy-drinking flavors of blueberry and boysenberry. Its lingering finish features black pepper, chocolate and Jolly Rancher grape candy.
