Kana 2008 Workingman's RedBest Buy. This downtown Yakima, Wash., winery has earned a reputation for value. It’s a blend of Rhone varieties gets some boost from Barbera and Tempranillo with a vineyard pedigree of Coyote Canyon (Horse Heaven Hills), Elephant Mountain (Yakima Valley) and Stone Tree (Wahluke Slope). The perfumy nose brings out Royal Anne cherry, pomegranate, spicy plum and moist earth. It’s fruit-forward, lively and lengthy with blackberries, chocolate-covered pomegranate and very little tannins. Look for it under screwcap.
