Locati Cellars 2009 Estate Sangiovese, Walla Walla Valley, $28
By Great Northwest Wine on April 15, 2013
This winery’s farming roots go back a century in the Walla Walla Valley, and its tasting room is conveniently located in the lobby of the Marcus Whitman Hotel in downtown Walla Walla. This delicious Sangiovese is a superb example of what can be done with the Italian variety in Washington. It opens with hints of saddle leather, oak and cherry, followed by up-front flavors of ripe cherry, plum and rich spice. Bright, classic acidity makes this a perfect wine with lasagna or lean cuts of beef.
