Grenache is most famous in the southern Rhône Valley of France, as well as Spain (where it’s called Garnacha). In the right areas, it can be a superb grape for Washington, and it appears the warm, arid Wahluke Slope might be that place. This is a stunning example of the red wine grape, showing aromas of sweet blueberry, boysenberry, black cherry, lilac and even pineapple. On the palate, it is ebullient, hedonistic and sensual, revealing flavors of ripe dark fruit and dark-roasted coffee beans. Enjoy with roasted pork, lamb chops or lasagna.
