Chateau Ste. Michelle 2009 Limited Release Malbec, Horse Heaven Hills, $30
By Great Northwest Wine on May 20, 2013
Using grapes from Canoe Ridge Estate Vineyard in the southern Horse Heaven Hills, winemaker Bob Bertheau has crafted a delicious red wine from the up-and-coming Malbec. In fact, this appears to be the only Malbec-labeled wine coming from Ste. Michelle at this time. It opens with aromas of horehound candy, blueberry, walnut, smoke and black raspberry, followed by silky flavors of serviceberry, blueberry and a sprinkling of cocoa. Typical of Malbec, this is backed with modest tannins and bright acidity. Try this with barbecued wings, pork chops or empanadas.
