Oregon wine wins top New World Riesling in California

ONTARIO, Calif. – An Oregon wine earned the title of “Best New World Riesling” at the 23rd annual New World International Wine Competition in Southern California.

Firesteed Cellars in Oregon’s Willamette Valley won the award with its 2009 Riesling.

nwiwclogoNk’Mip Cellars in Osoyoos, British Columbia, won a double gold and best of variety for its 2011 Riesling Icewine and a double gold for its 2009 Qwam Qwmt Syrah.

Burrowing Owl Estate Winery south of Oliver, B.C., won best-of-variety awards for its 2010 Cabernet Franc and 2010 Pinot Noir.

Maryhill Winery in Goldendale, Wash., won a gold and best of class for its 2010 Proprietor’s Reserve Sangiovese, along with two gold medals.

And Desert Hills Estate Winery and Red Rooster Winery, both in B.C.’s Okanagan Valley, also won unanimous double gold medals at the judging.
