Smasne Cellars 2011 Upland Vineyard Chardonnay, Snipes Mountain, $20
By Great Northwest Wine on June 8, 2013
Upland is one of the oldest vineyards in Washington. In 1917, William Bridgman began planting wine grapes on the slopes of Snipes Mountain in the heart of the Yakima Valley – and some of those grapes remain productive today. The grapes for this Chardonnay were planted by the Newhouse family since it purchased Upland in the early 1970s. This wine opens with aromas of candy corn, baked apple, butterscotch and pineapple, followed by juicy flavors of apple, fruit cocktail and butter rum candy. This is a delicious cocktail wine.
