Primarius 2011 Pinot Noir, Oregon, $15
Finding a high-quality, inexpensive Oregon Pinot Noir can turn into a bit of a quest, but we can always count on Seattle’s Precept Wine to come through. The wine was made by Haydn Mouat, who worked in California, British Columbia and his native New Zealand before coming to Oregon. He blended grapes from five vineyards for this delicious and affordable Pinot Noir. It opens with aromas of ripe raspberry, strawberry-rhubarb jam and violets. On the palate, it offers flavors of cherry, peach, raspberry and ginger. It shows a lot of finesse on the palate and provides nary a hint of oak.
