Cloudlift Cellars 2011 Updraft, Columbia Valley, $18
Tom Stangeland’s craftsmanship as a Seattle-based furniture designer shows in the tiny lots he releases from his Georgetown boutique winery. From “Release Two” comes a white Bordeaux blend of Sauvignon Blanc (64%) and Semillon from Bacchus and Dionysus vineyards overlooking the Columbia River north of Pasco, Wash. Gooseberry, lime and tomcat notes signal the presence of the Sauvignon Blanc, backed by pleasing lemon, nectarine and honeysuckle. Gooseberry and lime ply their way between the lip. Its seven months in oak shows with some creaminess on the midpalate, but it finishes cleanly with crispness. Suggested fare includes roasted chicken or grilled pork chops, and Cloudlift is available in the Puget Sound through Esquin, Total Wine & More and Wine World.
