Sequel 2009 Syrah, Columbia Valley, $50
By Great Northwest Wine on July 29, 2013
Australian winemaker John Duval of Penfolds Grange fame directs the Syrah-focused brand within the star-studded lineup of Long Shadows Vintners. This marks his seventh vintage collaborating with Walla Walla winemaker Gilles Nicault, and they tapped primarily into Boushey and Bacchus vineyards. Dusty black cherries, cinnamon bark and smoked meat aromas do not mislead. The palate brings out red-fruit flavors akin to Rainier cherry and Marionberry with more cinnamon and cedar as the structure shows refined tannins and abundant acidity that’s missing from many Syrahs from Washington.
