By Great Northwest Wine on July 30, 2013
Canyon Ranch Vineyard, a 500-acre site between the Washington wine country towns of Prosser and Benton City is one of three estate vineyards dedicated to John Freeman’s program at Walla Walla’s Waterbrook. And the promise is there, starting with aromas of Jolly Rancher grape candy, President plum, sea mist and nutmeg. It rains ripe purple fruit in the palate with more plums and boysenberry, followed by hints of fresh mint, thyme and clove with a backing of pleasing sandy tannins. Suggested fare includes barbecued pork ribs, ravioli and a grilled T-bone covered with portobello mushrooms.
