Second-generation winemaker Wynne Peterson-Nedry steps into one of the Northwest’s top Riesling programs, and this release marks Chehalem’s largest production from Corral Creek, Ridgecrest and Stoller vineyards. It was also the latest harvest, stretching into the second week of November. Aromas are reminiscent of tree-ripened Bartlett pear, Gala apple, sugared grapefruit with cinnamon, Lemonhead candy and jasmine. The entry is gorgeous with fresh-cut yellow grapefruit that’s ripe but not sugared, followed by Golden Delicious apple. Its mouthwatering acidity of lime zest belies the residual sugar of 2.5%, making for a remarkable finish that is perceived as merely hinting at sweetness. Suggested fare includes Carolina pulled pork with vinegar-spice.
