Michael Florentino Cellars 2010 Primitivo, Columbia Valley, $26
By Great Northwest Wine on October 11, 2013
Research has proven Primitivo and Zinfandel are similar but not identical. Rather, they are clones of the Croatian warm-climate variety Crijenak, and this Woodinville, Wash., winery did not lack for ripeness from these clusters. Exotic aromas include ground cloves and coconut behind brambleberries, dark strawberry and oregano. There’s hedonism on the palate with black cherry cola, blackberry jam and black pepper, backed by medium tannins. Suggested fare includes a slab of lasagna, grilled vegetables and hard cheeses such as Pecorino.
