Daven Lore Winery 2012 Rosé, Yakima Valley, $15
Best Buy! Granite Cairn of Daven Lore Estate Vineyard in Prosser, Wash., and neighboring Scott Fisher Vineyard combine for an assortment of nontraditional rose varieties — Petit Verdot, Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. And yet, in the hands of Gordon Taylor, they make for a deliciously dry pink. Its dark strawberry color and whiffs of cherry and strawberry could mislead some into believing this is a California Kool-Aid blush. Yet, he finished it at 0.1% residual sugar, leading to brisk flavors of ripe Rainier cherry, strawberry freezer jam and apricot. There’s even a bit of strawberry seed tannin for complexity. Suggested fare ranges from pasta in an Alfredo sauce, savory crepes and barbeques with potato salad.
