Sangiovese is not particularly easy to make, especially outside of its native Tuscany. Yet longtime Olympic Peninsula winemaker Don Corson has managed to craft one of the best examples we’ve seen this year. This opens with aromas of plum, pomegranate, black cherry and cocoa powder, followed by rich flavors of red and dark fruit, including cranberry, Rainier cherry, ripe plum and black raspberry. It’s all backed with chocolaty tannins and bright acidity. A perfect foil for lasagna, pizza or grilled meats.
