Gifford Hirlinger 2010 Estate Tempranillo, Walla Walla Valley, $34
By Great Northwest Wine on October 31, 2013
Idaho Panhandle product Mike Berghan is the grower and winemaker at his family’s stylish headquarters on Stateline Road in the Walla Walla Valley, and his work with single-variety bottlings continues to impress. The early-ripening Spanish grape offers gorgeous spice aromas of cinnamon bark and vanilla bean just in front of blackberry, cherry, strawberry and black currant. It’s indeed a mouthful with Bing cherry, currant and cocoa powder, all framed by sandy tannins and bittersweet chocolate.
