Great Northwest Invitational Wine Competition award: Gold medal

Washington wineWinemaker Richard Batchelor loves the fruit he gets from Joe Hattrup, owner of Elephant Mountain and Sugarloaf vineyards in the northern Yakima Valley. A surprise of white pepper and dusty celeriac captivate at the first sniff, underlain by blackberry and spice. In the mouth, this Rhône-style blend unfolds layers of blackberry, black currant and a little tobacco-black pepper bite in this Grenache, Syrah and Mourvédre blend of grapes from the Rattlesnake Hills.
