Chateau Ste. Michelle 2010 Ethos Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, Columbia Valley, $42
By Great Northwest Wine on November 17, 2013
Ethos is the reserve tier for head winemaker Bob Bertheau, a Northwest native who returned to Washington in 2003 to take over at Ste. Michelle. This Cab uses grapes primarily from Cold Creek, a renowned 40-year-old estate vineyard across the Columbia River from the Wahluke Slope. It opens with aromas of cherry wood smoke, violet, dark chocolate, black currant and pipe tobacco. On the palate, it reveals creamy flavors of sweet cherry, dark strawberry and black pepper, all backed by supple tannins and vibrant acidity that give way to a complex and layered finish.
