Spangler Vineyards 2012 Viognier, Southern Oregon, $21
By Great Northwest Wine on November 23, 2013
Roseburg, Ore., winemaker Patrick Spangler has taken and deliciously new approach to his production of Viognier, which he harvested Oct. 13 last year. It opens with aromas of juicy pear, orange oil, cantaloupe, facial powder and clove. The drink is rich and round with more pear and Gala apple flavors, backed by creamy orange then turns into orange zest in the finish that balances the residual sugar of 2%. Suggested fare includes curries and Rogue Creamery blue cheeses.
Rating: Excellent
Production: 122 cases
Alcohol: 13.9%
