Cascade Ridge Winery 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon, Columbia Valley, $20
Metropolitan Market, a high-end grocer with six stores in the Puget Sound, found success collaborating with some of Washington state’s top producers on its MM wine brand. Now, it offers its shoppers a higher-tier brand called Cascade Ridge and works with some of the state’s best vineyards. For the Cab, the sources are Alder Ridge in the Horse Heaven Hills, Doval on the Wahluke Slope and Elephant Mountain in the Yakima Valley. This first effort flashes aromas of cherry, boysenberry and blueberry with hints of chocolate and pipe tobacco. The silky palate features a sweet, dark fruit entry with ripe Van cherry and more boysenberry within a medium body of smooth tannins.
