Veranda Beach Cellars 2012 Lakehouse White Wine, Washington, $19
From a geographical standpoint, these grapes could fit within Okanagan Valley appellation because they are grown on the U.S. side of Osoyoos Lake at this new resort community in Oroville, Wash. The property’s winemaker, Katy Perry, knows how to work with fruit from north central Washington after making Lake Chelan her home more than a decade ago. Despite the proprietary name, this is 100% estate Riesling made in an deliciously refreshing style. Both the nose and flavors feature Granny Smith apple, quince, quinine, fresh-cut celery and lime. It’s clean with a touch of residual sugar and serves as a remarkable wine alternative to a tumbler of gin and tonic.
