By Great Northwest Wine on November 30, 2013
Robert Smasne’s winemaking continues to elevate the program at this Kirkland, Wash., operation. He’s created a robust blend of Syrah (42%), Cabernet Sauvignon (29%), Merlot (25%) and Malbec at an approachable price. The nose shows heavy barrel toast notes with French roast coffee and black licorice alongside black cherry and plum. A tilt brings flavors of dark cherries and chocolate. A good core of red plum and sandy tannins makes for pleasing length.
