An Outstanding case for Christmas

Airfield Estates 2012 Sauvignon Blanc, Yakima Valley, $13

airfield-estates-sauvignon-blanc-bottle-2012Best Buy! The Recommendeuer, the Washington State Wine Commission’s campy new — albeit unofficial — spokesman could seriously envision pairing this Yakima Valley Sauvignon Blanc with oysters. Marcus Miller’s skill with his parents’ grapes helped produce a wine that comes across very grassy with its aromatics of dusty gooseberry, sweet herbs, juniper and faint whiff of tomcat. As a drink, it’s clean, lean and green with Granny Smith apple and a spoonful of gooseberry pie. The edgy acidity will win over many foodies, so enjoy “the little spats” with a squirt of lemon and “let the wine do the rest.”
