43. Patterson Cellars 2012 Semillon, Columbia Valley, $23

patterson-cellars-wide-logoThis white Bordeaux variety often is overlooked in the Pacific Northwest, but John Patterson in the Woodinville Warehouse District has produced one of the region’s top example. Charming oak aromas bring up hints of browned butter, baked apple pie, apricot and lemon. There’s richness on the entry with lemon curd and pineapple flavors swirling within a creamy midpalate that’s finished with a sheen of lemon oil. It’s profile is akin to a lightly oaked Chardonnay, so enjoy with roast chicken rubbed with herbs de Provence or poached salmon.
