Milbrandt Vineyards 2012 Evergreen Vineyard The Estates Chardonnay, Ancient Lakes of Columbia Valley, $23

milbrandt-vineyards-evergreen-vineyard-the-estates-chardonnay-2012-bottleFew sites in the Pacific Northwest produce better white wines than the Milbrandt brothers’ Evergreen Vineyard near the Gorge Amphitheater in George, Wash. Joshua Maloney barrel-aged the fruit in 20% new French oak, and that imparts aromas of toast, butter, cantaloupe, baked apple and pineapple. The first sip brings in buttery notes with dried pineapple, leading to a rich midpalate and an expressive finish of cantaloupe and butterscotch. Suggested fare includes soft cheese, herb-crusted halibut and scallops as there’s plenty of acidity to play nicely.
