Milbrandt Vineyards 2010 Clifton Vineyards Mourvèdre, Wahluke Slope, $28
The Milbrandt brothers have helped put the Wahluke Slope on the map, and the appellation’s success with Rhône varieties continues with this Oct. 23 harvest of Mourvèdre (80%), Syrah (19%) and Grenache from their three Clifton sites along the western edge of the AVA. It opens with bright red fruit aromas of cherry and raspberry, backed by pinches of thyme, tarragon and chips of bittersweet chocolate. There’s a delicious match on the palate amid a structure that’s smooth, elegant and finished by cranberry acidity. Suggested pairings include grilled meats and Death by Chocolate. This is part of the Milbrandts’ Vineyard Series, and it’s available only at their Prosser, Wash., tasting room.
