One of Washington state’s up-and-coming sites is Verhey Vineyard in the Rattlesnake Hills, and Malbec is a variety that’s a rising star, too. This release offers aromas of black raspberry, black cherry, black pepper, Jolly Rancher grape candy and the herbal hint of horehound. What’s presented on the palate is a rich entry of jammy blackberry and black cherry with a burst of acidity. A late push of bittersweet chocolate tannins, black olive pit and minerality make for a nice ride.
