Raptor Ridge Winery 2012 Gran Moraine Vineyard Pinot Noir, Yamhill-Carlton, $45
Chehalem Mountains winemaker Scott Shull, one of Oregon’s top Pinot Noir producers, is confident that he’ll continue to get his allotment from this vineyard after its sale to California giant Kendall-Jackson. The influence of the cooling Van Duzer Corridor effect helps the wine reveal aromas of Hawaiian Fruit Punch, blueberry, pie cherry and cedar. As a drink, it’s clean and elegant with flavors of black cherry, raspberry and orange oil, backed by elegant tannins and juicy acidity. There’s good karma in supporting the Shulls, too, because they donate a portion of sales from each bottle to iSalud!, the nonprofit healthcare program for vineyard workers and their families.
