As this Washington coastal winery has raised its profile, more of the state’s top growers have opened up their vineyards to winemaker Dana Roberts. This vineyard-designate Chardonnay from the Miller family near Prosser serves as a tasty example. However, the dry and steely structure might appeal more to fans of a crisp Pinot Gris or austere Riesling than a more traditional Chardonnay. Its aromas feature huge tropical hints of pineapple, lychee and guava along with peach and melon. The flavors bring fresh-cut Granny Smith apple and dried pineapple, and there is a flash of Chardonnay in the background with some banana chips. The blue bottle comes under a screwcap, and a portion of its sales benefit the Grays Harbor Aubudon Society.
