Gordon Estate 2010 Syrah, Columbia Valley, $20
By Great Northwest Wine on January 29, 2014
One of Washington state’s coolest vintages allowed for this multi-generation winery in Pasco to produce a Syrah that’s shimmering with purple fruit, backed by bright acidity and lower alcohol. The nose opens with cordial cherry, lilac, saddle leather and smoked meat, while the fruit flavors focus on pomegranate and sweet blueberry. The inclusion of Cabernet Sauvignon (7%) adds to a structure that’s more food-friendly than many Syrahs. This wine earned a silver medal at the 2014 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition.
