Boomtown 2011 Syrah, Washington, $16
Boomtown is a second label for Dusted Valley Vintners, a Walla Walla Valley winery with a tasting room in Woodinville, Wash. Boomtown is made to the specifications of Corey Braunel and Chad Johnson, co-owners of Dusted Valley and brothers-in-law, at the Wahluke Wine Co. near the town of Mattawa. The latest Washington Syrah from the cool 2011 vintage is a gorgeous example, with aromas of rose petal, blackberry, clove and Australian black licorice. On the palate, it unveils flavors of molasses, black fruit compote, juicy blackberry and dark chocolate. It’s all backed with rich tannins that support all the intense fruit flavors, giving way to a lengthy finish. The brand enjoys broad regional distribution, and like all Dusted Valley wines, they’re topped with a screwcap for easy access and no cork taint.
