Angel Vine 2011 StoneTree Vineyard Petite Sirah, Columbia Valley, $22
By Great Northwest Wine on February 7, 2014
Expression is rarely a problem with this burly Rhône red, a 19th century cross of Syrah and Peloursin, and Oregon winemaker Ed Fus sourced his Petite Sirah on Oct. 16 from renowned Washington grape grower Tedd Wildman. The aromas come with hints of ripe dark plum, blackberry, black licorice, moist earth, crushed walnut and black pepper. There’s a bold core of dark fruit — blackberry, plum and black cherry — with tannins akin to Western serviceberry skin and an undercurrent of boysenberry acidity.
