By Great Northwest Wine on February 15, 2014
Wenatchee-area winemaker Al Mathews creates two styles of pink wine on Cathedral Rock Road — one from Sangiovese and this cheerful and slightly off-dry blend of Zinfandel, Syrah and Cabernet Franc — and both earned strong medals in West Coast competitions last year. Hints of dried strawberry, cranberry, black cherry and candy cane offer a gentle head-butt to the nose. The drink offers a friendly purr of strawberry candy and black cherry with a tail drag of dark plum, red currant, apricot and garam masala. The San Diego International Wine Competition treated it with a silver medal.
