Patterson Cellars 2011 Petit Verdot, Walla Walla Valley, $40

patterson-cellars-petit-verdot-2011-labelJohn Patterson continues to impress with the work that emerges from his Woodinville Warehouse District winery, which he also shares at his tasting room in Hollywood School District. This lesser-known Bordeaux variety receives support from Merlot (13%) as the opulent nose brings hints of black cherry and plum with chocolate, white pepper and a fair bit of char. Dense flavors are dominated by rich blackberry, cherry and plum. Moderate tannins and some racy acidity from red currant combine for a smooth finish.
