Sagelands Vineyard 2011 Malbec, Columbia Valley, $10

sagelands-vineyard-malbec-bottleBest Buy! Precept Wine and winemaker Ben Hummer continue to restore the luster this brand lost when it fell into foreign hands, and this marks the first vintage since the acquisition. The blending of fruit from three vineyards — Doval (Wahluke Slope), Willard (Yakima Valley) and Wallula (Horse Heaven Hills) — produces a wine of brilliant color with aromas of boysenberry, cherry juice, huckleberry, vanilla and cinnamon. Its inviting fluid offers a smooth entry of raspberry freezer jam and plump cranberry, backed by chocolate and allspice in the finish. Suggested fare includes marinated lamb, grilled kabobs or London broil rubbed with thyme and rosemary.
