Perhaps the hottest variety in the Washington wine industry, Chuck Reininger annually targets Pepper Bridge Vineyard for his expression with this Bordeaux grape. The nose features hints of black cherry, grape fruit leather, mocha and pencil lead, while the rich flavors broaden out to include president plum and Marionberry. It’s backed by dark chocolate and sandy tannins, then finished with a pinch of black pepper. Look for this in wine shops, but the 2010 vintage will be released to wine club members in April.
