Fraser Vineyard 2012 Petit Verdot, Snake River Valley, $34
By Great Northwest Wine on March 7, 2014
Thankfully, the dense and highly textured reds from this Sunnyslope vineyard near Caldwell, Idaho, continue to trickle out on the market. Aromas of dusty cherry, Marionberry, toasted cherry wood and minerality dominate and are followed by a fairly rich entry of dark plums, elderberries and more Marionberries. The fine-grained tannins are fascinating and lead to the finish of Milk Duds, earthiness and a return of purple fruit. Don’t look for this PV until the Boise State Broncos report to fall camp, and then sales will be limited to Bev Fraser’s tasting room — just a short walk from the blue turf.
