Castillo de Feliciana Vineyard & Winery 2012 Vino Verano, Yakima Valley, $16
By Great Northwest Wine on March 8, 2014
The Castillo family goes beyond their estate vineyard in the Walla Walla Valley for their Pinot Gris, which they source from historic Airport Ranch and label using the Spanish phrase for “summer wine.” It’s fermented without oak yet aged on the lees for five months, which accounts for aromas of peach, apricot and Golden Delicious apple. The flavors range from pineapple to pear to white peach, with rewarding citrus acidity mixed in with that lees aging to provide depth and balance.
