Firesteed Cellars 2012 Pinot Gris, Oregon, $12
By Great Northwest Wine on March 10, 2014
Best Buy! Bryan Croft is well into his second decade as Firesteed’s winemaker, and he’s on quite a ride with this bottling of Pinot Gris. This winter, it earned a gold medal at both the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition and the Seattle Wine & Food Experience judging, and it’s clear to see why, starting with gorgeous aromas of orange, pineapple, apricot, starfruit and clove. Bright flavors of tangelo and orange oil lead into nice roundness on the midpalate with honeydew melon, and it’s finished by terrific acidity. These wines are widely distributed, and a suggested pairing is this recipe for Spinach and Pear Salad.
