Helix by Reininger 2011 StoneTree SoRhô, Columbia Valley, $33
By Great Northwest Wine on March 10, 2014
One of the Northwest’s top sites for Rhône varities, Chuck Reininger has been reaching into Tedd Wildman’s StoneTree Vineyard on the Wahluke Slope to make this wine dating to 2006. It’s a blend of Mourvèdre (52%), Grenache (31%) and Cinsault that’s fresh and fruit-forward on the nose with cherry juice, president plum, cranberry, white pepper, pipe tobacco and graphite. That juicy red fruit angle persistently pushes through the palate from beginning to end. The use of finer oak adds complexity, and there’s not much muscle from tannin. Enjoy with charcuterie from Cugini in Walla Walla or Olympic Provisions in Portland.
